Custom Cabinets & Furniture

About Creative Woodworks

Creative Woodworks is the woodworking studio of Brian Miller. Founded in 1997, our focus is to produce one of a kind, custom fine works in wood for inspired and discerning customers. Creative Woodworks works with both private and commercial clients.

Creative Woodworking has the knowledge and resources necessary to create beautiful timeless pieces for private customers needing furniture or cabinets as well as the design understanding and process critical to work with interior designers and architects as an extension of their team on any size project.

Using the best hand picked examples of any wood species, we assist our customers in realizing their vision. We have had extensive experience in designing and making all types of fine furniture and a wide array of cabinet styles.

Not limited to just local domestic species, we have access to responsibly harvested exotic materials that are not endangered. Located in Freelton adjacent to a traditional saw mill that harvests and processes locally felled woods of all species, we are granted with the luxury of hand selecting local source wood to ensure only the best quality and consistency in the finished work. Not being restricted by typical commercially sourced materials and sizes, ensures a truly elevated and custom end product.

Saw Blade

Fortunate for us, we're located next to Millgrove Wood Products, a traditional saw mill and lumber salvage that selects, harvests and recovers lumber from within a 100km radius of our shop. This enables us to hand select material for our work from the source, even prior to milling. This enables us to have a high level of quality, variety of species and consistency in the solid wood we work with.

Perhaps not as exciting for everyone as much as it is for us, this is a shot of the old rough cut saw that marks the first stage in the production of some of our local material for your work. There aren't many of these around anymore - it's a beautiful thing.

Wood Pile

Sculptural and impressive, this is wood that's locally harvested, organized, tagged and piled 20' high to dry and age.

Wood, like any natural product ages and goes through states of change. One of the most important factors of wood quality is drying and aging. Wood we select has the opportunity to age and dry naturally, not only improving the quality and longevity of the final product but also reduces the ecological footprint of our work.

Barry Imber - Imber Akse House
It's unfortunately rare today to connect with craftspeople that remain dedicated to an art for the love of it despite the pressures to go big or produce commodity. Brian Miller and Creative Woodworks is one such craftsperson and company that sticks to the foundations of true art. We met Brian through a referral and were refreshed at his ability to quickly understand our design aesthetic and sustainable objectives as if they were is own. His desire to work with our design while providing practical experience and improvements to bring our kitchen dream to reality was inspiring. In the end his work was marvellous, the finish and install meticulous and we are forever thankful to have his art in our home. I welcome anyone who wishes to discuss or see his work to contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Barry Imber

My wife and I have contracted with Brian at Creative Woodworks on four separate occassions for custom furniture and millwork in our home. The work includes lacquered book cases, a base for a kitchen island, a fireplace mantle and all the millwork for a media room.

The media room required fine veneers and exotic solid wood along with some inlay. Brian went the extra mile on this project and we are very satisfied with the workmanship.

We have had many positive comments on the unique design and quality of the woodwork that we will enjoy for years to come.

I hope that Brian is available for our next project when we build a new house.

Dear Brian,
The table is perfect. It is exactly what I wanted.

Our collaboration from beginning to end contributed to the wonderful final result. Your advice was invaluable.

After and exhaustive search in furniture stores and on the internet I realized that a custom made table was the only option for me.

As soon as I talked to you and saw your work I felt confident that you would dedicate the time and care. And you did!

With sincere thanks,
Diane Gocelyn
